Edna M. Russell, 95, of New Carlisle, passed away on Tuesday September 12, 2017 in her home. She was born on March 16, 1922, in London, England, to the late Edward William and Edith Susan Darling. On July 1, 1944, she married Gordon Kenneth Russell, who preceded her in death on May 20, 1960. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mona Handscomb and three brothers, Ken, John and Cyril Darling. Edna is survived by her two sons, Kenneth B. (Cindy) Russell of Columbia, TN and Keith G. Russell of New Carlisle; seven grandchildren, Scarlett E., Robert M. Stephen M. (Rachel), Andrew M., D. Moore, Madison A. and Shelby E. Russell; two great grandchildren, Charles and Susanne Russell; four sisters, Vera Bartmess, Joan Massey, Ida Grahn and Betty Baker; and by many special nieces, nephews and extended family. Mrs. Russell survived the bombings during the WWII Battle of Briton. She met her husband while working at a war factory, moving to New Carlisle in 1950, before living in South Bend most of her life. She worked as a sales clerk for the Robertson’s Department Store in South Bend. She loved her dog Max, who was her faithful companion.
