Edna Hanselman, age 100 of Algona formerly of LuVerne, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Edna Luella Hanselman, the daughter of Lewis and Amelia (Nelson) Olson, was born on June 12, 1916 on the family farm outside of Livermore, Iowa. She attended country school outside of Livermore and graduated from Milwaukee Lutheran High School in 1934. On January 5, 1936, Edna was united in marriage to Edwin George Hanselman at Zion Lutheran Church in LuVerne. After their marriage the couple lived on their farm where Edna was a devoted homemaker.
They lived on the farm until moving into LuVerne in 1973. For 30 years, Edna and Edwin enjoyed spending their winters at Magic Valley Park in Weslaco, Texas. She loved crocheting Afghans for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, making quilts for her children, walking and biking. Edna was a past member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Livermore and currently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona. She was a member of LWML where she was very active and had served as a district officer. Left to cherish Edna’s memory is her children, Vera (Keith) Voss of LuVerne, Paul (Darlene) Hanselman of LuVerne, Laurie (Dennis) Page of Osceola and Lynn Gorney of Des Moines; daughter-in-law, LaRue Hanselman of Algona; twelve grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; and fourteen great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin; son, Vernon Hanselman; grandson, Scott Hanselman; son-in-law, Jerry Crawford; two brothers, Henry and Earl Olson; and seven sisters, Olive Olson, Lila Nelson, Agnes Soli, Rhoda Brockman, Aleda Hanselman, Myrtle Hanselman and Mable DeGroote.
