Edna C. Martz, 100, of Williamsport passed away peacefully Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Williamsport Home. Edna was proud to have been the oldest living alumnus of the Williamsport Hospital School of Nursing at the time of her passing.

Born December 29, 1918, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Joshua S. and Catherine (Derr) Martz.

Edna was a 1936 graduate of Williamsport High School and enrolled in nursing training at the Williamsport Hospital in 1939. She later earned a Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree from the University of Pennsylvania and began her career with the Navy Nurse Corps during World War II. In June of 1947 Edna became a TWA flight attendant based out of Kansas City, Missouri. She was recalled back into the Navy Nurse Corps from 1953 until 1956 for shipboard duty taking care of dependents traveling to Europe, Puerto Rico and Panama for the duration of the Korean War. Following her honorable discharge she returned to her career as a flight attendant, flying domestic and international flights for a total of 36 years before her retirement in 1984. Edna was a career woman with great faith attending the former Newberry Methodist Church and was a current member of St. John’s-Newberry United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with the local Senior Citizen groups, bowling, golfing and knitting.

Edna is survived by a loving nephew, David J. Martz Jr., of Vienna, Va. She was preceded in death by a sister-in- law, Martha (Hoffman) Martz.
