Edmond L. Marrotte, 78, of Willimantic, CT passed away January 13, 2021 after battling a long illness. Born in Willimantic to Eugene and Martha Marrotte. Ed grew up working on the family dairy tending to the cows and peddling milk with his older sister Edith. He attended St. Mary’s and later Windham High School continuing his Education at UConn where he would find his passion for Horticulture and educating people along with his longtime friend and college advisor Gustav Melquist (aka Doc). Upon graduation from UConn, Ed started his position there where he stayed until his retirement in 2003. He also worked alongside Doc until his passing in 1999. Acting as the Consumer Horticulturist for the state of Connecticut. Ed spent his career educating 10’s of thousands of individuals, farmers and businesses about their plant and tree care, problems and maintenance needs. He also spent many years teaching evening and weekend courses for the Master Gardener program, teaching his skills and knowledge so his students may help others. Ed was a devoted husband and great father. Family time was spent fishing, hunting and camping and showing his great love and knowledge of the outdoors, a more well-rounded and humble man was hard to find. Ed is survived by his wife Sheila of 53 years, son Michael of Willimantic, daughter Amanda of New Britain, brothers Norman and Gordon of North Windham and Willimantic respectively, Marty Lavoy of Willimantic and predeceased by his sister Edith Gaylor of Mansfield.
