Edith Smith, age 85 of Shepherd died at her residence on Sunday, July 6, 2014. The daughter of the late Charles and Ethel (Polhmus) Norris was born on September 22, 1928 in Midland where she was raised and educated. On June 25, 1948 she married Bud C. Smith and he predeceased her in 1998. Edith started working for the Mt. Pleasant Drive In Theater for three years and then worked for 17 years at the Oil City Grocery, retiring in 1987.

She loved to play Bingo, was an avid Detroit Tiger Fan and enjoyed Country music where she and family members traveled to Nashville, TN for many years. Edith enjoyed being with her grandchildren. She attended the Midland Missionary Church, Life member of the VFW Post #3033 in Mt. Pleasant and a member of the Black Creek Conservation Club. The family would like to thank Maple Lane Assisted Living for their kind and compassionate care of Edith for seven years prior to her returning home. In home care was then provided by Heartland Hospice and was deeply appreciated by the family.

Edith is survived by sons Bud Smith of Shepherd, John Smith of Shepherd and daughters Carol (Richard) Smillie of Mt. Pleasant, Ellen (William) Weinberger of Powder Springs, GA and her grandchildren Karen Freeman, Kathy Smith, Shanna DeLong, Dawn McKeever, Jelena Patrick, Jason Weinberger, Amy Benton, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Edith was predeceased by her brothers Art, Jack and Harold Norris and sisters Gladys Love, Gertrude Lyon, baby Mabel Norris and grandson Scott Smillie. The family would also like to thank Edith’s home care family: Betty, Andrea, Marty, Linda, Deb and Shanna.
