Valatie Edith G. Brown McLaren , 102 ,of Barnwell Nursing Home Valatie, died Sunday, June 20, 2004 at the home after a long illness.

Born in Cohoes, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Brown and Matie Wilkins Brown and wife of the late Edward Walter McLaren.

She had resided at Barnwell Nursing Home since 1978 and was educated at Cohoes and Watervliet schools where she was the Valedictorian of the Watervliet High School class of 1915; a graduate of Troy Conservatory of Music for piano and organ, class of 1919 and an Advanced Studies class in 1933.

Mrs. McLaren played piano for dance studios, silent movies and stage shows. She was a former member of the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church; a church organist for many years and a member of the West Sand Lake Grange and Waterford Eastern Star.

She is survived by two sons, Edward McLaren of Danbury, CT and Eugene McLaren of Poestenkill; a daughter, Mary Beck of Virginia Beach, VA; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Eugene Herbert Brown III.
