Edie Roberta Wolfe of Brownsboro, Alabama passed away Thanksgiving morning on November 25, 2021. She was 68. She finally has an excuse to skip Thanksgiving.

She was born in Athens, Alabama and was raised in both Athens and Huntsville by her parents Dr. David and Mrs. Edith Howgate. Though she lived her whole life in the area, she traveled far in her imagination and knowledge. She was a self-taught scholar of the bible, world religions, art, music, and film. She had a knack for growing things, often rescuing plants and helping them thrive against all odds. She loved picnics on the mountain with family, her children, and her animals. Edie was known for her quick wit, foul mouth, and stubbornness that would rival a mule.

Edie spent her working years as a homemaker for the Department of Human Resources, where she helped families in crisis, often using her own time to find resources for children and parents in need. She also spent nearly two decades working in medical collections, where she was a friendly voice and advocate for those in debt. Her experiences in both realms – family crisis and debt – made her an unlikely advocate in both careers.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Erika Howgate and Beverly Rutledge. Survivors include her parents, Dr. David and Mrs. Edith Howgate; her children, Sean Wolfe and wife, Jennifer, Michael Wolfe and wife, Kelley, Erin Ehsani and husband Salvatore Stolfo, Mackenzie McKannan Rufer, and husband Josh Rufer; grandchildren Michael Wolfe, Emma Wolfe, Alice Wolfe, Alaric Wolfe, and Elio Stolfo; niece and nephew, Amanda Whisenant and David Rutledge; her brother-in-law Daniel Rutledge; her beloved dog Charlie, and cats Zoe and Oy.
