After the Army he worked for Wesley Freeman Construction where he retired in 1982. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #213 in Glen Burnie and Boumi Temple Camel Division. He enjoyed family vacations and bus trips. He was preceded in death by his wife Emily A. Pumphrey. He survived by his daughters Darlene Hammond of Ft. Myers Florida, and Donna King of Pasadena ; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
