Ed went to his eternal home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 4, 2022. He was born in Cambridge, Maryland on September 14, 1933, the oldest of 3 children born to Edgar B. and Sarah (Short) Spear.
He is survived by his three daughters: Doris Berkey, Robin (Roy) Bissey, Sarah (Kendall) Wills. Five grandchildren; Breanna (Tommi) Miller, Kristin (Matt) Gallagher, Brittany (Cameron) Hayes, Kendall (Brianna) Wills, Jr, Cambria (Justin) Ryan. And eleven great grandchildren; Bailey, Annabelle, Colt, Addison, Mia, Payton, Rory, Jaxon, Penelope, Clayton & Kadence. He is also survived by sister Betty (Nick) Kowitski, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Lela M. (Brady) Spear. His father and mother Edgar B. and Sarah Spear, sister Patricia Willey, two stepbrothers; Lee Spear, Edward Sonny Booze and one stepsister Louise Spear.
Ed joined the Air Force in 1952 where he received his GED and 2-year college degree. After basic training he went to Cheyenne, Wyoming for Aerospace ground equipment technician training, upon completion he was stationed in Korea during the Korea conflict. After Korea his next assignment was to Walker Air Force base in Roswell, New Mexico. That is where he met and married Lela (Brady) Spear on December 21, 1954. Their first daughter Doris was born in Roswell. They received orders to serve at Pease Air Force base in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where their second daughter Robin was born. The next tour of duty was Zaragoza, Spain, where their youngest daughter Sarah was born. After leaving Spain, Ed was stationed at Dyess Air Force base, Abilene, Texas. He then did a tour in Vietnam/Thailand during the Vietnam Conflict. Upon his return to the United States, Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado was his final military assignment. He retired as a Master Sergeant in 1972 after 20 years of active duty. He worked at various jobs after the military. After their daughters graduated from high school, he and Lela moved to New Mexico for the warmer climate. Ed worked in Hagerman at the lumber yard and then in Roswell for the Chaves County Detention Center until 1995 when he retired.
During their retirement Ed and Lela traveled in their motorhome and saw all the continental United States.
After the death of his beloved wife in 2018 he moved to Flagler, Colorado to live by his youngest daughter, Sarah and some of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
