Eddie Lee Hart was born on October 21, 1940, in Lonoke, Arkansas. His father, Emanuel Russell was a sharecropper and his mother, Savannah Hart was a homemaker. He was the fifth of twelve children born in the family. The family relocated to the nearby Brummitt Farm, when Eddie was ten years old. The number one priority for the family was to gather the crops. As a result, Eddie and his siblings always started school about a month and a half late. This was never a deterrent to him because education was important and he proved that by academically excelling to the top of his class. After School, Ed took pride in being the school’s Track Star. Whether it was running the 50 yard or the 100 yard dash, Eddie broke many records and became the “Top Runner” in Lonoke and surrounding counties. It was during this time, he was given the nickname “Fast Eddie.” He graduated from George Washington Carver High School. He often talked about his burning desire to go to college but the family financially could not afford to send him. After graduation, Eddie relocated to Little Rock, Arkansas where he started working as a Truck Driver. From 1963 to 1973, he drove to appliance stores delivering refrigerators. This was followed by becoming a group leader for Franklin Electric. He remained with this company for ten years. In 1983, he moved to Denver, Colorado and became employed by McKesson Drug Company as a Truck Driver. He touched many lives while delivering medical supplies to hospitals and stores throughout Colorado. He was awarded the “President Depends on Me Award” five times. When his job was eliminated, Eddie became employed by RTD as a Bus Driver. Prominently displayed in his home are many Safe Driver and Perfect Attendance awards received in performance of his bus driving duties. In February of 2003, Eddie retired after actively working for over 40 years. Eddie was a hero and a great provider for his family. All needs were taken care of. He made sure of it. Eddie was also a man of great wisdom. You could ask him anything and he would always give you inspirational words, wisdom, and guidance.
