As a young adult, he moved to Memphis, Tennessee.  In 1964, he relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana, where he met and later married Addie Mae Davis.

Earnest was employed in maintenance and security. He would be considered a “workaholic”, working seven (7) days a week for years, until he was unable to work due to his health. He retired in 2008.

He loved to care for his wife and often surprised her with gifts. Earnest was known for his sense of humor. He always had something to say to keep people laughing. He loved to dance, and often amused his rehab caregivers with his dancing performances. Sometimes they danced along with him.  Above all, Earnest loved to talk about putting his trust in Jesus.

God called him home on Tuesday, July 16, 2019, after an illness at Eskenazi Hospital. He was preceded in death by his father, Earnest Hill, Sr.; his mother, Daisy Lee Newman, and his stepfather, Nathaniel Newman, Sr.

He leaves to cherish his memories his loving and devoted wife, Addie Mae Hill; his brother, Charles Lee Newman, of Indianapolis and Nathaniel Newman Jr.

Earnest’s absence will be felt by so many. Earnest never met a stranger. His wife can be quoted as saying, “He’s a character.
