The life of Early Carter Jr. is a story of love. On March 7, 1941, the world became a brighter place. On that day, Early Carter was born in Dothan, Alabama to Prettie K. Carter. Early had one older brother, Bobby. Early loved his mother and his brother dearly. Early was a man of great faith in God. He would frequently recall to his family the times in his life where God had intervened and brought him through tough situations. His love of God and his acceptance of Jesus as his savior removed “worry” from his daily walk. Early discovered the love of his life, Carol J. Powell, when they were fourteen years old. The two were married and out of this love grew six children, Kedrick, Phillip, Early III “Lee Lee”, Shamaile, Arzchell, and Darcell. Early and Carol enjoyed traveling on cruises and overall loved spending time with one another. Their love became the foundation for strong loving family. He was a stern father and expected the very best from his children. His daughters recall their father stressing the need to be ladies and carrying themselves in a respectable manner. All of his children recall the expectation that you would seek education or get a job and become productive citizens in society. Early took an individual approach to his relationships with family, friends, coworkers, and people he would meet on a daily basis. He had an intricate character and “way of being” that drew people to his loving energy. He made everyone feel valued and special. He was humble, genuine, and displayed a level of humility that every human being should strive to reach. Early loved his job and the people he had the opportunity to work with. His work ethic was impeccable. He refused to miss work and would wake up early to ensure that he arrived on time. His children and grandchildren can recall the whistling of the teapot in the mornings and watching Early walk out of the house with his “Big Gulp” cup full of hot tea or coffee. After spending more than 30 years working with the City and County of Denver as a Truck Driver, Early earned a full retirement. His wife Carol, recalls the swagger he had the day he walked with her, out of the retirement office. While Early was a man of few words, when he did speak, the substance of what he was saying carried great strength. He was not one that would tell you how you should live your life, but he was the type of person that would provide insight from his own experience of the world to try to make another person’s experience a little bit easier. Early absolutely loved sports. He was a fan of the Denver Broncos and the Denver Nuggets.
