Earl C. Steely, 75, of South Bend, who was a great father, grandfather, husband and friend, passed into eternal life after an aggressive illness.
Earl C. Steely, nicknamed Red, went home to be with the lord at 6:15 PM on Wednesday, September 7, 2005. He was born on October 14, 1929, to the late Chester and Belva Steely. He was a lifelong area resident of South Bend, Indiana. He was a blessing to many throughout his life.
On June 23, 1962, Red married the former Mildred, known as Millie Rhodes. Later he adopted all her children and has always been thought of as their true beloved father and nothing else. He worked at Dewery’s for 21 years, later retiring from A.M. General after 18 years, in 1991. Red also served in the U.S. Army from September 1954 until an honorable discharge in August 1962. He was an associate member of the FOPD Lodge #36 for 27 years and a member of the College Park Missionary Church, Mishawaka.
Red was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Belva Steely; his sister, Betty Mae; a son Danny; and a daughter, Marcella.
Red leaves cherished memories to his wife, Millie; his three daughters, Patricia Sparks and Melody (Tracy) Terkos of Mishawaka, and Pamela (Thomas) Voreis of Rolling Prairie; and his son, Herbert (Marry) Steely of Mishawaka. He also leaves wonderful memories with his 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great- great-grandchild, as well as with his friends. We all consider it a blessing and an honor to have been a part of his life. We all have wonderful memories, which is a wonderful gift that gives us all the ability to keep him with us throughout our lives. Many will miss him dearly.
