Dr. Shapour Samii, 101, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at his home in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Born on March 6, 1921 in Tehran, Iran, he was a son of Dr. Abootaleb and Koochek Samii.  

 

Dr. Samii will fondly be remembered around the world by family, friends, and former students, as well as by his loving, devoted wife, Zarrin, who he was married to for over 40 years. 

 

Leaving what could have been a bright military career in Iran, Dr. Samii came to the United States to pursue a path in academia, resulting in a distinguished career in higher education. Dr. Samii earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Center College, located in Danville, Kentucky, a master’s degree from University of Wisconsin at Madison, Wisconsin, and his Ph.D. from Lehigh University. He began his tenure at Moravian University in 1963 as a professor of economics and was honored as a Professor Emeritus upon his retirement in 1989. 

 

Dr. Samii was a member of Advent Moravian Church, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He enjoyed oil painting, traveling abroad, and was an avid fisherman.
