Dr. Charles S. Kraihanzel, 79, of Hanover Township, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, while in the care of St. Luke’s Hospice House in Bethlehem. He was the husband of Pauline F. (Tripp) Kraihanzel. They celebrated 57 years of marriage in June of 2014. Born in New Bedford, MA he was the son of the late Charles and Hattie (Vaughan) Kraihanzel. He received his B.S. degree in Chemistry from Brown University and his M.S. degree in 1959 in Organic Chemistry and his Ph.D. in 1962 in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin and furthered his Postdoctoral studies from 1961 to 1962 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Kraihanzel was a Chemistry Professor at Lehigh University for 40 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Bethlehem, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and a Basketball Coach for 25 years, sang in the Choir, was a Church Moderator, a Deacon, a Small Group Bible Study Leader. He also led the Senior Citizens Group and was a Summer Camp Director at Camp Ichthus. Charles coached baseball at Lehigh and City Line Little Leagues in Bethlehem. He was a Freedom High School Band Parent and President from 1975-1976. Charles enjoyed gardening and wood working. Survivors: his loving wife, Pauline; daughter, Sherna A. Anthony and her husband, Paul of Bethlehem; sons, Paul F. Kraihanzel and his wife, Shelley of Bethlehem; Kris M. Kraihanzel and his wife, Lynn of Malvern, Pa. and Eric J. Kraihanzel and his wife, Heather of Bethlehem; 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
