Dr. Richard N. Landis, 73, of Williamsport, died Saturday, June 24, 2017 peacefully at his home.

Born November 30, 1943 in Elroy, he was a son of Jacob and Lillie (Nyce) Landis.

Dr. Landis was a 1961 graduate of Souderton High School, received his Bachelor of Science from Ursinus College in 1968, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Syracuse University in 1973 and 1977.

Dr. Landis first worked as a Mental Health Worker at Norristown State Hospital, before starting his postgraduate career as a behavioral health psychologist and certified clinical neuro-psychologist at the UPMC Susquehanna Williamsport Hospital. There, Dr. Landis devoted himself to the care of his patients for 42 years.

Dr. Landis was an avid reader with a deep interest in American culture including history, literature, music, sports, politics, and geography. In his beloved pickup truck, “Caballo”, he traveled the backroads of America, retracing the paths of American explorers and visiting historic sites of the Civil War, favorite authors and musicians.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Evelyn (Bergey) Landis, who he married March 25, 1967, two sons, R. Matthew Landis (Angela) of Middlebury, VT, and Joshua D. Landis (Vivien Taylor) of Sharon, VT, two grandchildren, Willem and Ella, a sister, Esther Ruth, and a brother, Jacob Landis.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Halteman, and a brother, Ernest Landis.
