Dr. Joseph John Covello, 52, of Bristol, died at 6:26 a.m. Thursday (May 13, 2010) in Elkhart General Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 23, 1957, in Newark, N.J., to Joseph J. Sr. and Rocchina (Lanastro) Covello. He married Sharon Ann Hamels on Sept. 11, 1992, in Belleville, N.J.
His is survived by his wife, Sharon A. Covello of Bristol; son Joseph M. Covello, at home; daughter Christianna A. Covello, at home; mother Rocchina Covello of Miami, Fla.; and brother Charles J. Covello of Miami, Fla.
Joseph was preceded in death by his father, Joseph J. Covello Sr.
Dr. Covello was a cardiologist starting at the Elkhart Clinic and then with Midwest Medical Group from 1994 until his health forced his early retirement in 2001. Joseph started at Georgetown University and graduated with his B.A. from the University of Miami in Florida. He then received his medical degree from the University of South Florida, where he also did his residency, and he finished up by doing his fellowship in cardiology at St. Vincent Hospital and Medical Center in New York City.
Joseph was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and a former member of the Elcona Country Club. He enjoyed photography, watching baseball and was a licensed amateur radio operator.
