Dr. John L. Cornog, Jr., a long time resident of Guilford, Middletown and Madison, passed away on Saturday, July 26th due to complications associated with Parkinson’s Disease. Born on January 16, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late John L., Sr. and Evelina (Edwards) Cornog, Dr. Cornog spent his formative years in Swarthmore PA where he attended The Episcopal Academy. After graduating from Princeton University in 1950 with a degree in English (summa cum laude), he earned a Master of Arts degree in comparative literature from Harvard University. He served as a Lieutenant J.G. in the Navy during the Korean War. After honorable discharge, he earned an M.D. from University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Following an internship at Yale and a pathology residency at University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Cornog practiced academic pathology at the Indiana University, Yale University and the University of Rochester, in NY. Later in his career he taught pathology at a variety of medical schools and practiced at St. Raphael’s Hospital in New Haven, CT. Dr. Cornog loved education and had a variety of other interests including travel, the arts, nature, hiking and chess. Dr. Cornog is survived by his son, John L. Cornog, III of Guilford; two daughters, Katherine H. Cornog of Newburyport, MA and Elizabeth E. Cornog of Clinton; and two grandchildren, Echo and James D’Ambrosio, both of Clinton. He was predeceased by Joan (Huse) Cornog who was his wife for many years.
