Husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and so much more, Dr. Fridtjof Nussbaumer (‘Pop’, ‘Doc Fred’ and ‘Freddie’), 78 years young, was born in Clarksville, Tenn., from Anna Sturm and Japhet Nussbaumer. Fridtjof passed away peacefully in his home this Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, with his family at his side.

Fridtjof was a devoted family man who practiced orthopedic surgery for over 30 years in Syracuse, N.Y.

He was happily married to Mary Nussbaumer for 46 years who passed in October of 2010.

Whether you were biologically related to him or whether you were one of the lucky ones who were able to be adopted by him, you can know, without a doubt, that you were loved by him. No one could deny his giant heart and his commitment to anyone and everyone.

It’s not very often that you can meet a person and say, “He is the nicest, kindest, smartest man” and have it be true. But without any hesitation, this is his legacy.

‘Pop’ is survived by his loving children, Kathy Miller, Mark Benton, Christopher Nussbaumer and Karen Nussbaumer; and 14 grandchildren, Joshua, Rachel, Lara, Rebecca, Eric, Jessica, Brian, Amber, Ashleigh, Adam, Aidan, Bradley, Bryce, and Jackson.

He was the most optimistic person anyone has ever met. He was everyone’s cheerleader. “You can do it! You can do anything you put your mind to!” His words and his spirit will resonate with everyone he touched.

“I’ve had a great life. I have a wonderful family and friends and I have no regrets. If I leave today, I will have lived the best life surrounded by the best family and friends.”
