Donald T. Forman

Dr. Donald T. Forman born in Brooklyn, NY passed away Wednesday evening while in hospice care in Cary, NC. He was 87 years old. He received a B.S. in Chemistry from Brooklyn College, City University of New York and a MSc. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Wayne State University. Dr. Forman was a world-renowned biochemist as a professor at the medical school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel. Previously, he was on the faculty of Northwestern University Medical School and directed the Clinical Chemistry Laboratory at Evanston Hospital. He authored foundational research in artherosclerosis, liver disease and developing methods for diagnosing health-related disorders. He nurtured generations of medical students and scientists; he collaborated broadly sharing his expertise and providing professional leadership. He received numerous professional awards including the American Chemical Society Award for Excellence in Clinical Chemistry and a Lifetime Achievement Award from Brooklyn College.

Don Forman cherished his family, enjoyed travel with his grandchildren and nurturing recent family immigrants from Riga, Latvia. He was a beloved friend, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved being with his family and sharing both professional and recreational experiences with his children and grandchildren. He was the devoted husband of Florence Forman, brother of Judy Portnoy, father of Joan Forman (Steve Blumenthal), Steve Forman (Liliana Marin), Debra Forman (z”l); grandfather of Sarah Blumenthal (Jacob Forstater), Louisa Blumenthal, Max Blumenthal, Jacob Forman (Bonnie Ewald), Emma Forman, Rebecca Baylor, Daniel Baylor and Joshua Baylor; and great grandfather to Ezra Blumenthal Forstater and Talia Blumenthal Forstater.
