Dr. Alex Christopher Cureton, MD, of Indianapolis, passed away on the late evening of Wednesday, January 29, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 60. Dr. Cureton was born March 21, 1959 in Jamaica, Queens, New York the son of Andrew C. and Ellen (Ratliff) Cureton.
Dr. Cureton was a graduate of Piscataway High School in Piscataway, New Jersey and earned his Bachelors degree from Howard University in Washington, DC and received his medical degree from The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and completed his residency at the Indiana University School of Medicine. He practiced as an Obstetrician and Gynecologist for 36 years in the Indianapolis area. He was also a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity and had also proudly served his country in the United States Navy.
Dr. Cureton was an avid reader and was an accomplished linguist, speaking fluent Spanish, French and German. He enjoyed music, especially jazz and played the guitar and saxophone. He enjoyed sports and liked basketball, tennis football and Formula One racing and was a classic car enthusiast, especially the ‘57 Chevrolet. He was foodie and always looked forward to a good slice of pizza, his favorite.
Alex was a kind and selfless man, often to his detriment. His passion for medicine and helping others who were ill was his driving force as he continued to practice until being admitted into the hospital himself. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed making others laugh. His genuine love of people will be missed by all who knew him.
Those left behind to mourn his passing are his mother, Ellen Cureton; his children, Dominique Cureton, Andre Cureton and Alexis Cureton; his granddaughter, Naya Cureton; his sisters, Deborah (Andrew) Williams, Terri Cureton and Fleur Sterling as well as his former spouse and mother of his children, Patrice Miller.
Alex is preceded in passing by his father, Andrew Chambers Cureton.
