Doyle Wayne Blassingame, Sr., age 82, of Dowagiac, died peacefully Thursday, July 28, 2016 in his residence in the peace and comfort of his family. Doyle was born December 1, 1933 in Baldwyn, Mississippi to William and Alma (Jamerson) Blassingame, the youngest of three children. He was preceded in death by his brother, Hoyt Blassingame, Sr. Doyle served in the U.S. Air Force retiring as a Tech Sergeant.
He was a guitar player and song writer. Doyle was known as “Godfather” because he was not only the decision maker in the family but looked out for his family and friends. Although if his family “caught” him doing something he would make a pouty face and say, “what you talkin’ ‘bout, Willis?” Doyle was a man who was well loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
He is survived by one daughter and son in law, Sheila and Kenneth Howard of Dowagiac, one son, Doyle Blassingame, Jr. of Dowagiac; four grandchildren, Corey, and wife Cindy, Howard of Dowagiac, John, and wife Melanie, Howard of Dowagiac, Linda Starrett of Niles, Tech Sergeant Duane, and wife Nicole, Blassingame of Ohio; nine great grandchildren, Jason Howard, Chelsea Howard, Nico Howard, Reina Howard, Ethan Howard, Steven Ferris, Stephanie Ferris, Shawn Ferris, Mariah Thompson; and one “furry” grandchild, Charlie; one sister, Virginia, and husband J.R., Masey of Osceola, Indiana; and long time companion and caregiver, Kay Beauchamp York; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
