DOUGLAS R CAVILEER died quietly in his sleep on the morning of the 15th of June 2016 at age 92. He was a naval aviator who qualified to fly torpedo bombers during World War II, and was learning to use those aircraft modified for night bombing in the upcoming invasion of Japan when the war ended. He remained in the Naval Reserve primarily flying Grumman S2F Trackers in antisubmarine warfare over the Atlantic retiring as a Commander in 1987. He was also an executive at Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. He is survived by his wife Grace Lunger Cavileer — celebrating their 68th Wedding anniversary earlier this month. He had two children, Doug and Sharon, (Sharon passed away last year), four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was guided in his Presbyterian faith and volunteered with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Association of Naval Aviation, and The Freedom Museum. He was a patient and loving family man and a successful businessman, who most of all loved flying. He has made his final approach.
