Douglas Ray Bolander was born June 9, 1955 in Shelley, Idaho, the son of Von and Loraine Bolander. He died on December 15, 2015 in his home surrounded by his family. His life was cut short after a courageous battle with cancer. His motto was “I am going to kick this” and we sincerely wished that he would have, but unfortunately his time on Earth was finished.
He was a graduate of Capital High School class of 1974 where he enjoyed being a member of the gymnastics team, as well as exceptional member of the high school choir. He received multiple awards for his skills as a gymnast and later in life he enjoyed coaching. He was called to serve in the England Leeds Mission from 1975–1977.
In June of 1977 he met his sweetheart, Lorie Lee Fenton. They were married for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple on December 16, 1977. While newly married he continued his education at Boise State University and graduated with a certificate as an auto body technician. He loved to work on cars and especially enjoyed the classics. Throughout Doug and Lorie’s journey together they had three beautiful children, Celeste (Mike) Blackburn, Paul (Kim) Bolander, and Bruce (Mindy) Bolander. They found great joy as more members joined their family. Their grandchildren include Charity, McKenzie, Raymond, Emalee, Kielee, Travis, Mitchel, Emma and Harrison.
His hobbies included camping with family, refereeing basketball, putting together puzzles, fixing cars, painting cars, attending car shows, fixing things (meaning everything), and serving others. If you wanted to find Doug on a Saturday afternoon he could be found mowing someone’s lawn, fixing a fence, tinkering with a car, or watching a basketball game.
If you were to ask him what his greatest achievement was he would say his family. He loved his wife very much and he passed away the day before their 38th wedding anniversary.
He is survived by his wife, Lorie; their children and grandchildren; his parents, Von and Lorraine Bolander; his siblings, Marlene Roscheck, Jerry Bolander, Thane (LaDawn) Bolander, Cheryl (Ron) Boman, Vicky (Lance) Johnson, Denice (Scott) Thornton, and Kevin (Chris) Bolander; and many more nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank everyone who has helped through this difficult time, especially the staff at St. Luke’s MSTI Center and Signature Hospice.
