Douglas R. Rushing, 41, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 7:07 p.m., Wednesday, August 3, 2005, in Our Lady of Holy Cross Care Center, San Pierre, IN, after a 26 year battle with a brain tumor. Douglas was born on January 13, 1964, in Schenectady, New York, to Raymond and Audrey (Dornhoefer) Rushing. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 15. Douglas went on to graduate from Clay High School and received a bachelors degree in chemistry in 1992 from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT. Douglas was formerly employed with a pharmaceutical company. He had also worked for Uniroyal, and was a substitute teacher with the South Bend Community School System. He was a volunteer Spiritual Care Advisor for more than a decade with Saint Joseph Medical Center and Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center. Survivors include his parents, Raymond and Audrey Rushing of South Bend, IN, his brother, Ken (Amanda) Rushing of Owings, MD, his sister, Barbara (Tom) Bode of Canton, MI one niece, Brooke Bode, two nephews, Brent and Bryce Bode, his aunt, Margaret Rushing of Shreveport, LA, and by several cousins.
