Douglas Karsen, 84, of Bridgman, Michigan, died peacefully on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at his home with his family by his side. Doug was born September 24, 1928 in Mishawaka, Indiana to Walter and Theo (Kamack) Karsen. He was an enterprising young man, teaching welding when only 13 years old. After graduating from High School, he served his country in the US Army as a M.P. Officer, obtaining the rank of Corporal. On December 27, 1952 Doug married Joan Ziolkowski in Battle Creek, Michigan.
He was the President of Pyramid Press Company of Bridgman, a subsidiary of Weldun. He served as a City Commissioner of Bridgman and was a member of the Baroda Lions Club. Doug was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Bridgman where he was an usher. Doug loved farming and collected John Deer tractor memorabilia.
Survivors include his wife, Joan; children, Michael Karsen and Vera Jean of Lawton, Michigan, Julia and John Pincek of St. Joseph, Michigan, “Scary” Mary Karsen of Bridgman and John and Donna Karsen of Port Huron, Michigan; grandchildren, Kyle, Tony, Lori, Mia, Crystal and T.J.; great grandchildren, Rocky, Daisey, Bo, Annabelle, Lilia, Knox, David and Jamison. He was preceded in death by his brother Bruce.
