Douglas H. Currie of Wallingford, formally of West Haven, passed away Friday, November 25, 2011 at Masonic Hospice in Wallingford at the age of 79. He was born on December 11, 1931, son of the late Allyn and Ann Currie. He will be reunited with his wife of 58 years, the late Mary-Lou Dixon Currie, the love of his life. He leaves behind his son, Douglas (Joanne) of Londonderry, New Hampshire and his daughter, Barbara (Michael) Rocheleau of Wallingford. Boo Boo or Grandpa also leaves his three grandchildren, Kathleen and Kevin Rocheleau of Wallingford, and Megan Currie of Londonderry, New Hampshire, and grandchildren by marriage Jennifer Howard, Kelly Hamel, and Lori Cote, and great grandchildren, Jeremy, Kady, and Kara. Doug lived most of his life in West Haven and moved to Wallingford in 2009. He always had a smile on his face and never lost his sense of humor. Everyone who counted him as a friend was very lucky! Doug began his working life as a mechanic for Cooley Chevrolet in New Haven, and then on to his lifelong career as a plumber, where he was a member of Local 777 Plumbers and Pipefitters for 60 years. He and Mary-Lou enjoyed their second home in Hillsboro, New Hampshire and the good times they had there with family and friends. They also had a retirement home in Boynton Beach, Florida. Doug also leaves behind a brother, Edward, of East Haven, and a sister, Elizabeth Carlow, of Davie, Florida, brother-in law Wallace Dixon, and sister-in law Gayle Dixon O’leary. He was predeceased by his brother, Allyn. His family would like to thank the nurses and aides on Ramage 2, in the ACU unit, and Hospice at Masonic Hospital for the wonderful care you gave him.
