Douglas Charles Welch Age 81 of Corunna passed away Monday, January 2, 2017 at Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility Funeral services will be held 11am Saturday, January 7, 2017 with Pastor Dean Rhine officiating. Burial will take place in Mio at a later date. The family will receive friends at Nelson-House Funeral Home on Friday from 4 to 8pm.Douglas was born January 20, 1935 in Mio, the son of Harold R. and Florence B. (Smith) Welch.He graduated from Mio High School and proudly served in the United States Army.Douglas was a member of Bethel Evangelical Church and the Michigan Canoe Racing Association. He enjoyed canoe racing, woodworking and especially looked forward to spending time with his family.He married Evelyn Welch in Indiana on March 27, 1992.Douglas was owner operator of Crystal Clean Water and retired from Sheet Metal Building Trade Union.Douglas is survived by his wife Evelyn; sons Jeff (Amy) Welch, Roger Welch and Dennis Welch; step-children Ozzie (Mary) Portice, Janet (John) Landry, Mark (Terri) Portice, Karen (Greg) Howden, Connie (Larry) Brown; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; other loving family and friends.He was predeceased by his parents and brother Dennis.Memorial contributions are suggested to Bethel Evangelical Church or the family.
