Dortha Alice Pierce, age 80, went home to be with her Lord on August 10, 2016. Dortha was born October 3, 1935, in Noble County, IN, the daughter of Orris and Nina (James) Stump.

She was raised in Sturgis, MI, graduating from Sturgis High School in 1953, and on July 17, 1954, was united in marriage to Larry E. Pierce. She was a charter member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Dortha and Larry were active in the start-up of West Portage Little League. She enjoyed crocheting, coloring, and flower gardening. Dortha especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren at their athletic events and 4-H shows at the Kalamazoo County Fair. She was very proud of the crocheted blanket she made that won a blue ribbon at the Kalamazoo County Fair. Dortha loved spending time at their Lake Cecilia cottage up north in Lake County where she was a lady’s auxiliary member of the Lake Township Fire Department. She was also a member of the Portage Schoolcraft Eagles Lodge. Dortha was preceded in death by her husband Larry in 1997; by her son Danny in 1988; and by siblings Pauline Hecht, Robert Stump, Lois Frays, Leon Stump, Ruth Mallow, Phillip Stump, and Alan Stump.

Surviving are three children Sherry (Steven) Ozanich, Larry (Robin) Pierce, and Connie (Rich) Hunter; four grandchildren Kenny (Em) Green, Danielle Hunter, Logan Hunter, and Johnathon Hunter; two great-grandchildren; in-laws Barb Stump, James Frays, Phyllis Stump, Lloyd Mallow, Barb Pierce, and numerous nieces and nephews.
