BELOIT – Dorsel Richard Pifer, age 80, of Beloit, died at 12:47 a.m. on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at the Alliance Community Hospital with his family by his side. He was born July 1, 1937 in Reedsville, Ohio, the son of the late Harold Pifer and the late Edna (Mays) Pifer-Davis.

He attended many different schools, as his family moved around a lot, worked on many farms until he went to work for the railroad in 1951. He worked for many different railroads, but retired from Conrail after 47 years of service. He loved to go to auctions, fix and sell farm equipment. Richard owned Green Gables for a short period of time.

He loved to meet the railroad men at Heggy’s on Wednesdays, he also belonged to the Knox Sportsman’s Club, and The American Rifle Association.

Before getting diabetes, Richard and Shirley loved to do lots of traveling throughout the United States.

Surviving him in death is his wife Shirley (Hagan) Pifer, whom he married on August 11, 1957; two daughters, Beverly (David) Carney of Damascus and Brenda of the home; two half brothers, Keith of Arizona and William of Alliance; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Carney of Damascus.

Besides his late father, Harold Pifer and and late mother, Edna (Mays) Pifer-Davis, he was preceded in death by one full brother, Earnest Pifer; one half brother, Roger Davis; one half sister, Francis Davis Miller; and a grandson, Matthew Carney.
