Dorothy L. (Heck) Ranken of Freeport, died Saturday, June 30, 2012 in Dayton, Ohio. Born March 17, 1930 in Lena, Il. She was the daughter of Glenn A. and Ida C. (Simmer) Kaiser.
She married Lester E. Heck on September 27, 1947. He was a fireman and a police officer in Freeport. He died on March 5, 1961. She married Wallace Ranken December 30, 1966 in Cherry Valley, IL. He died Feb 20, 1994. She was the step mother of Don, Judy, Ted, Cay and Lori.
Dorothy was a data processor at Economy Ins. Co, worked at Structo Mfg. and as a food server at Food Bonanza.
Dorothy was a dedicated Nanny for 9 years for the Dr. Alan and Patty Esker family. She attended the Church of the Brethren.
Dorothy was a member of the Freeport Women’s Bowling Assn., enjoyed auctions and counted cross stitch.
Dorothy had fond memories of the “lunch Bunch” ladies and valued the kindness of the Cedarville Community where she lived before moving to Dayton, Ohio in 2006 to be cared for due to the progressive symptoms of Alzheimer’s Disease.
She was survived by 2 daughters, Chyrll S. (David) Lincoln of Freeport and Janice L. Gunn of Dayton, Ohio and two sons, Jeffrey D. Heck of Wasilla/Palmer, Alaska (deceased January 29, 2013) and Bradley K. (Stella) Heck of Brush Creek, TN, 5 grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; all her sisters are now deceased, Mildred E. (Dick) Roenneburg, Mary (Jim ) Schneider, and Ruth A. (Gerry) Reinert.
