Dorothy Rupert Morgan, 86, formerly of Erie, died Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Fairview Nursing Home, Centreville, Mich.

Dorothy’s husband, William Cole Morgan, died in 1988.

Dorothy and her husband were graduates of the American Seminary of the Bible in Brooklyn, NY. They had hoped to be missionaries and were denied acceptance, because of her husband’s hearing disability.

Dorothy was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Erie where she was a secretary for many years, a Sunday school teacher, active in the Maranatha Missionary Society, serving many times as president. She was also a medical secretary.

Dorothy was committed to her Lord, His Word, His Church and missions. She published articles on spiritual topics, and spoke at various women’s meetings and retreats.

Dorothy loved her dogs; she was a flashy dresser, who always wore a hat and she loved to make people laugh. She was a powerful storyteller, who every summer kept the extended family, who congregates on the Loyalsock Creek, entertained.

Born October 9, 1924 in Williamsport, she was the daughter of Jesse J. and Helen Tomlinson Rupert.

Surviving are a son, John Rupert Morgan and his wife Michele, who have been medical missionaries in Africa and home missionaries in Columbus, OH. They now work at the mission office of ABWE and continue in overseas medical ministry. They reside in Mechanicsburg, PA. She is also survived by her daughter, Betsy Susan Morgan of Burr Oak, Mich., who is the college librarian at Glen Oaks Community College. Also surviving are grandchildren, Sean William Morgan of Fort Myers, FL, Jason John Morgan (and wife Sara) of Columbus, OH and Danielle Renee Morgan Strohminger (and husband Stephen) of Columbus, OH.

Dorothy was predeceased by a brother, John Franklin Morgan.
