Dorothy Horton a resident of Goodland, Kansas for 53 years and local business woman passed away March 26, 2015 at the Legacy Center Assisted Living in Canon City, Colorado. She was born August 12, 1915 in Russell County, Kansas to Arthur S. and Hannah E. (Inman) Rice. Dorothy was united in marriage to Chester H. Horton on October 6, 1943 in Goodland, KS. Together they owned and operated Horton’s Body and Repair Shop in Goodland, KS for 40 years. While Chet was the craftsman/artist who repaired the cares, Dorothy was the bookkeeper/general manager. Dorothy is survived by her son, Jerrell J. “Jerry” (Marilyn) Horton of Canon City; sister, Alberta Hayden of Goodland, KS; and sister-in-law, Vida Rice of Middleton, ID. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jerrell L. (Tammie) Horton, Tina (Bob) Vincent, Shawn (Dana) Horton, Chris (Amber) Ray, and Maranda Ray; great grandchildren, Bryna Horton, Britton Horton, Erin Horton, Tiana Stebens, Tiara Stebens, Chelsie Horton, Aubrey Horton, Evan Lujan, Kaylee Lujan, Alexander Ray, and Zachery Ray; great grandchildren, Shawn Hernandez and Riplea Rudzik; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chet; brothers, Chet Rice and Joseph Rice; and sisters, Ellen Ahrens, Katherine Krause, Pansy Downtain, and Florence Rice.
