Dorothy M. Drake, age 89 of Midland, died Saturday afternoon June 4, 2016 at Brittany Manor. The daughter of the late Winslow and Dora (Brink) Beach was born in Detroit on March 3, 1927 and moved to Midland when she was 5 years old where she was raised and educated. Dorothy worked as a house cleaner in the area and then was a well-known cook at The Midland Elks, Kings Daughters. She and Joanie Davies started Happy Diners at Memorial Presbyterian Church over 40 years ago. She was also a greeter at McDonald’s. Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, walking and being with her family and grandkids. On April 27, 1944 in Midland, Dorothy married Walter Drake and after 36 years of marriage he died on September 18, 1980.
Surviving is her son, David (Lila) Drake; daughter, Ruthann Smith all of Midland; son in law David Scheiber; former daughter in law, Anna (Ernie) Hahn; grandchildren, Marsha, Deanne, Christopher, Theresa, Tim, Heather, Tara, Angie and Ernie; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband Dorothy was preceded in death by son, Walter; daughter Dora Scheiber; siblings, Orin, Harold Beach, Ruth Hoon, Gladys Chapin, Lillian Kunick and Betty King.
