DOROTHY M. CALHOUN BURWELL

 United States

  • Date Of Death: July 23, 2019
  • State: Indiana

Dorothy Mae Calhoun was born on November 5, 1924, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Benjamin and Mary Turner-Calhoun, who both preceded her in death.  She was the second of three children born to this union. Dorothy received her primary and secondary  education in the  Indianapolis Public School System. She attended School #42 and Crispus Attucks High School.

Dorothy was united in holy matrimony to Lloyd Burwell in 1944.  No children were born in this union and her husband also preceded her in death. Dorothy was employed Commercial Towel and Uniform Company prior to her retirement.

At Puritan, Dorothy was a faithful and dedicated servant who  served on the Usher Board, Nurses Ministry, and was a Vacation Bible School Teacher, just to name a few. She often joked that she’s been on   every ministry except the choir.

Aunt Dot, Mother Burwell, as she was affectionately called, departed this earth on July 23, 2019, at the age of ninety-four years eight months and seventeen days. She leaves to cherish her memory her great nephews, Michael Smith (Tyana), Jerome Smith (Essence), Jason Smith, and Naesha (John); thirteen great great-nephews and nieces, a host of first cousins, many  relatives and friends, and her beloved “Club Members”.

Although Dorothy never had any biological children, she held a special place in her heart for her “Buckner Girls”, Patricia, Burnetta, and Cheryl.
