Dorothy Jean Ward, 84, died at 1:30 a.m. on December 1, 2012, at the Willowbrook retirement complex, Delaware Ohio, from complications of flu and Alzheimer’s disease. She was born August 26, 1928, in Enon Valley, PA, a daughter of Frank and Hazel Hartford. As a result of her school in PA being condemned, she attended and graduated from East Palestine High School, where she met her husband of 64 years, Lee (Roy) Ward. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Mary George and Helen Hartford. Surviving are a daughter, Lisa Bednar, granddaughter Katelyn Bednar, grandsons, Kevin and Kyle Bednar, a son, Douglas (Dianne) Ward and granddaughters, Lindsey and Stephanie Ward. Following her husband’s career moves, she resided in: Pittsburgh, PA, Akron, OH, Baytown, Texas, Parkersburg, WV, Crown Point, IN, and Bloemendaal, Holland. In her career, she was an executive secretary to three different company presidents, worked in a newspaper office and ended her career as office and personnel manager for a shipping firm. She was president of the Parkersburg Women’s Club. Her pastimes were bridge and golf, and a hole-in-one was one of her happiest moments.
