Dorothy J. Gray, age 81, of Prospect, passed peacefully to meet the Lord and be reunited with her beloved “Stuie” on May 16, 2013.
She was born July 4, 1931, in Chaumont, NY, the daughter of Leonard and Vada Kirkby Beck, and graduated from Watertown High School. Dorothy was united in marriage to James S. Gray on May 30, 1952, in the Church of the Redeemer, in Watertown.
Dorothy was an initial organizer and the first Librarian of the Prospect Library. She was an avid reader and always loved working in her garden during the Spring and Summer.
Dorothy is survived by two daughters and sons in law, Deanna and James S. Shepard of Floyd, and Robin and Chris H. Miller of Tully; a son and daughter in law, James S. Jr. and Christine M. Gray of North Utica; a brother and sister in law, David L. and Lillian Beck of Tignall, GA; a brother in law, Frederick L. Gray of Watertown; grandchildren, Melanie Burdick, Alice Miller, Chris H. Miller II, and Steven and Taylor Gray; great grandchildren, Grace Burdick and Andy and Ella Polak. She was predeceased by her husband, James “Stuie” Gray.
The family sincerely thanks caregiver, Laurie Fitzsimmons, and Drs. Joseph Booth and Steven Williams for their care, compassion and friendship extended to Dorothy during her illness.
