Dorothy Irene (Sorenson) Brittain, 94 years of age, of Beatrice, passed away Monday, February 27, 2017 at Beatrice Health and Rehabilitation in Beatrice. She was born on July 30, 1922 near Crab Orchard to Andrew and Carrie (Strawder) Sorenson. Dorothy lived most of her life in Filley until moving to Beatrice in 1992. She married Cecil Brittain on October 4, 1941 in Marysville. Dorothy was a cook at the Filley School for 26 years, being head cook for 23 of them. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and a Gold Star member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Crab Orchard. Dorothy enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, cooking and especially caring for and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by 2 daughters, Carol Wolfe, Donna Schultze and husband Jim, both of Beatrice; son, Kent Brittain and wife Linda of Omaha;8 grandchildren, Jerry Wolfe, Rjay Wolfe, both of Lincoln, Carrie Thurston and husband Kevin of Nicollet, Minnesota, Craig Schultze and wife Donna of Beatrice, Eric Schultze and wife Kari of Linn Creek, Missouri, Jamie Houser and husband Michael of Wilber, Dustin Clark and wife Kelly, Hayley LeMay and husband Scott, both of Omaha; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; sister, Pauline Lovitt of Crab Orchard; brother-in-law, Ardith Brittain of Lincoln; and a host of relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Jessie Sorenson; husband, Cecil on July 20, 1998; 4 brothers, Roscoe, Raymond, Leland and Fred; and 2 sisters, Bessie Jeffery and Anne Sikyta.
