Dorothy Helen Whitaker, age 91, passed away at her home in Dade City, Florida on August 6, 2017.
Dorothy was born July 6, 1926, in Parr, Indiana, the daughter of Morton and Emma (Hackworth) Salyers. Dorothy graduated with the Class of 1946 from Rensselaer High School, Rensselaer, Indiana. In June 1948, in Rensselaer, Dorothy married Bernard Whitaker, Sr. who survives.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church, Medaryville, Indiana, where she had been involved in the St. Mark’s Ladies Aide group. Dorothy was a member of the Red Hat Society and had enjoyed participating in bowling leagues for more than twenty years.
Surviving with her loving husband of 69 years, Bernard is two sons, Bernard (wife Diana) Whitaker, Jr. of Winamac, Indiana and Mark G. (wife Mary Ann) Whitaker of Covington, Indiana, six grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and her sister-in-law, Cathy Salyers of Rensselaer, Indiana.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and three brothers.
