Dorothy Parker Hatley, age 90, of Albemarle, N.C., passed away peacefully at Stanly Regional Medical Center, Hospice Unit, Albemarle, NC on Tuesday, July 21, 2009. Mrs. Hatley ws born November 15, 1918 and was the third of 10 children of the late Inez Huneycutt Parker and William Thomas Parker of Albemarle, NC. Mrs. Hatley is survived by her daughters, Doris Hatley Burroughs and her husband Bob, Sondra Hatley Elvin, Marcelle Hatley Lowder, all of Charlotte and Reba Hatley Harris and her husband Jeff of Matthews, NC, one grandson, Jonathan Parks Harris of Matthews, NC, one brother Edward Parker and wife Colleen of Albemarle, step grandsons, Chad Coburn Lowder of Albemarle, NC, and Monte Burroughs of Mountain Home, Arkansas, step granddaughter Elizabeth Burroughs Santos of Miami, Florida, as well as her extended family of sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins of whom she loved. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James Everett Hatley, six brothers, Marvin Parker, Craven Parker, Coburn Parker, Buck Parker, Sanford Parker, Cletus Parker, two sisters: Estelle Parker Lambert, Janelle Parker Burris adn son-in-law, Lane Lowder. Until her declining health, Mrs. Hatley was a faithful member of Friendship United Methodist Church, Albemarle, NC and was involved in many church activities including Methodist Youth Fellowship Counselor, United Methodist Women and was one of the first women appointed Steward of her church. She was a busy lady with many interests that included gardening, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, cooking and baking. Many will remember her wonderful “chocolate pie.” She was a homemaker and was employed in the dietary department of Millingport School for many years and also worked for Collins & Aikman for several years. The family would like to thank Dr. Edward Kepp, the staff of Taylor House Assisted Living, and Hospice of Stanly County for their loving care.
