Dorothy was born December 17, 1922, in Benton Harbor, Michigan, the daughter of Frank and Lillian Loverence Karbadon, and passed away December 16, 2011, in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
She received her Bachelor’s degree from Western Normal College; her Master’s in Library Science from the University of Illinois and had been a school librarian for many years in Chicago and Springfield, IL. Dorothy has been a Kalamazoo area resident since 2006 and had resided most of her life in Springfield, IL. Dorothy’s faith as a Christian Scientist guided her view of the world as well as her actions in life. She never desired material possessions; she was a minimalist throughout her life. Her passion was literature and was an avid reader. Dorothy appreciated the natural world and every spring anticipated the return of nesting ducks to the Friendship Village courtyard. She had a generous heart and embraced a broad spectrum of people. On January 17, 1950, she was united in marriage to George Engez, who preceded her in death on December 30, 2006.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and by four brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are five nieces and nephews and fifteen grandnieces and nephews.
