Dorothy Cook, age 100, of Milford formerly of Algona died on Monday June 1, 2015 at the Milford Nursing Center in Milford. Dorothy, daughter of Alfred and Anna (Smith) Nelson, was born on December 18, 1914 in Algona, Iowa. She graduated from Algona High School in 1932. After high school Dorothy traveled and lived in Miami where she worked retail. She later traveled and lived in Minneapolis before she moved back to Algona.

On July 17, 1945, Dorothy was united in marriage to Elmer E. Cook in St. Louis, Missouri. Dorothy continued to work various retail jobs in Algona. She was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church and served as the head for the Presbyterian Women.

Dorothy truly loved people and being together at fellowship parties. Dorothy spent many summers at the Wheeler Trailer Camp in Okoboji where she and Elmer owned a home. Traveling was a passion of Dorothy’s and she always talked fondly of Denmark. She would make frequent trips to Minneapolis to attend the Opera. Dorothy was never a fussy person and will be remembered for her positive attitude. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Elmer in 1997.
