Dorothy Brossman, age 96, of Vandalia, died peacefully Thursday, August 18, 2016 in Bronson Lakeview Hospital in Paw Paw, Michigan.She was born September 22, 1919 in Newberg Township, Michigan to Herman and Margaret (Allinson) Smith. She married Robert Lincoln “Lefty” Brossman April 23, 1946 in Cassopolis, Michigan.

He preceded her in death in 2012. She was also preceded by her parents; one sister, Grace Smith; and one brother, George Smith. Dorothy first worked as a schoolteacher. After her son was born she focused on working in and around the family farm and raising her family. Dorothy took pride in what she did, whether gardening and working with her flowers, keeping house or being “Grammie” to her family. Not only was she a perfectionist, she was not shy about telling her family, “I am very independent.” She was known for drawing pictures in cards that she sent for any occasion, making each one unique.

Her family remembers her putting a special effort into each of the gifts that she gave. Dorothy will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by her son and daughter-in- law, Dan and Linda Brossman of Vandalia; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Jose) Brossman-Martinez of Hampshire, Illinois, Andy (Allison) Brossman of Vandalia; two great grandchildren, Katelynn Kleckner, Alex Brossman; and a host of nieces and nephews.
