Doris Taylor Lucas

September 30, 1928 – October 9, 2021

 

                         Doris Taylor Lucas was born to Luther and Callie Taylor on September 30, 1928. She went to be with Jesus this past Saturday, surrounded by family. She was four years old when she started school. She graduated from Lucama High School in 1945. That was the first year of twelve year graduates. After graduating from high school, she went onto attend Atlantic Christian College and got her teaching degree in three years. She started teaching in 1948 at Saratoga High and taught there three years. She stopped to have her son, Kenneth. The next year she returned to Glendale and taught there for Forty Five years. After retiring, she substituted until 2020, in Wilson and Johnston counties. She loved teaching and her students, and they loved her. Many students wrote her notes telling her how much they appreciated her.

                         She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl (Herbie) Lucas; parents, Luther and Callie Taylor; sisters, Nona Boswell (Tom), Shirley Godwin (F.W.), Janice Barnes and brother-in-law, Albert Turner.

                         She is survived by her son, Kenneth Lucas (Emma) ; granddaughter, Missy Schmid (Ken); great-grandchildren, Ava and Kristian Schmid; sister, Margie Turner; brother, Jimmy Taylor (Gale); brother-in-law, Scott Barnes, several nieces , nephews, and cousins.
