Doris Register Carlisle, 88, passed away March 20, 2023 at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield.
She lived in Zebulon, NC and was born in Sampson County on October 2, 1934 to the late Graham and Sadie Register. In addition to her mother and father, she is also preceded in death by her husband Herbert D. Carlisle; Sister Ernestine Melvin.
A special thanks goes out to her caretaker, Lynn Strickland, who took great care of Doris for many years.
Doris was a great cook and loved baking cakes and pies. She had a beautiful voice and was known for her voice in high school and at the tobacco barn. She was also known for her many crafts and talents. She painted some the most beautiful bird houses and gave them to all her doctors and also to those who were so kind and helpful to her. She loved sewing dolls, clowns, and their outfits to give to children. Doris was a military wife for many years and supported her husband and family during all their travels. With all her disabilities she would never stop her crafts. Just a few davs prior to her death she never finished her last bird house she was painting for her son, but it’s hanging in his house now.
