Doris M. DeShara, 84, of Jacksonville, died Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at Heritage Health Therapy & Senior Care.

Doris was born Nov. 10, 1929, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Henry and Hattie Baldwin Souza. She married Walter E. DeShara on Sept. 10, 1950, in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on July 10, 2006.

She is survived by two daughters, Sue A. (husband, Stanley) Hayes of Jacksonville and Lori Tinsley of Springfield; one grandson, Bradley Hayes of Jacksonville; one step-granddaughter, Shawnda (husband, Steve) Hembree of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and one great-granddaughter, Janessa Hayes of Jacksonville. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Marceline Nunes, Alma Jean Odaffer and Bernadine DeFreitas.

Doris was a 1947 graduate of Jacksonville High School and then graduated from Hardin Brown Business College in Jacksonville. She retired as a Caseworker with the State of Illinois, Department of Public Aid. She was an active member of the former Northminster Presbyterian Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, Alpha Iota Sorority, and was a volunteer at Barton Stone Christian Home and Passavant Area Hospital.
