Let us first say that this is not good-bye to our loving mother,
Brief Sketch of Life
Doris was born December 28, 1929, to Cornelius and Agnes Hester in Greenwood, Mississippi. Her parents came from hard working families and instilled this value in their son, Mark and daughter, Doris. Mom spent her infancy in Greenwood, Mississippi, and then spent some time as a toddler in Chicago, until she moved to Indianapolis, Indiana.
While in Indianapolis, she attended Crispus Attucks High School, where she excelled and graduated with honors in 1946. Her excellent academics earned her a scholarship to the University of Illinois; however, she attended Indiana University locally where she majored in Business. Due to her mom needing assistance at home, she did not accept the scholarship and attended Indiana University. While at home she decided to work for the Welfare Office in Indianapolis as an Administrative Assistant. She enjoyed this work and made many long-lasting friendships. She accepted Christ as a youngster and was a follower of God. Our mom served God faithfully and loved her family.
Doris was introduced to a fine gentleman named Robert Moye, who was born in Pensacola, Florida, and from that introduction, a friendship developed that ultimately resulted in marriage in July of 1956. There were four children born to this marriage, Eric, Robert Stuart, Nelson, and Millicent. She was a warm and devoted mother. She understood the importance of discipline and an education. It was her faith and encouragement that helped us through many trying times in life.
On the evening of April 26, 2019, Doris received her wings and went to live with her Heavenly Father. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cornelius and Agnes; brother, Mark, and husband of 38 years, Robert.
The family would like to thank staff at Methodist Hospital, Hooverwood Nursing Facility, the St. Vincent Hospital faculty and staff of the hospice care team.
