Doris Jean Ware, the daughter of the late Claude A. Lisemby and Mary Louise Carey -Shaw was born August 29, 1941 in Montgomery Tennessee. She was the only child and attended Indianapolis Public Schools #87, #32 and graduated from Shortridge High School and Porter Business College.
At the age of ten, Doris was baptized at Mt.
In December 1969, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Ira Gene Ware, who preceded her in death in June 2020. This union produced one daughter, Corlisa “Lisa” Ware-Craig. Doris shared a
special relationship with her son, Vincent Brown from a previous marriage to Clarence “Billy” Brown. She was also fond of Cheryl Logan, Sharon Whitehead, whom she called her play adopted
daughters.
Doris was known for her style and love of singing. She formerly sang with the Puritan Sanctuary Choir & Senior Golden Voices. Throughout her life, Doris achieved many accolades as a skilled singer.
On December 11, 1959. Doris was a guest soloist at the Fall Creek YMCA public series which featured the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. For several years she traveled throughout Indiana, Tennessee, and Illinois performing in gospel concerts. In 1971, the Deputy Mayor of Gallatin Tennessee presented to her the Key to the City.
Doris also performed at the 50th N.A.A.C.P. National Convention in New York City. Where She appeared in a televised show as a guest soloist on a show, hosted by the late Lavenia Jacobs.
Doris previously worked at the Army Finance Center, Herff Jones, State Office Building, RCA, and retired December 31, 2000, from the Eli Lilly & Company Corporate Center where she was a dedicated employee for 21 years.
