Celebrating the Life of Doris Jean Briscoe-Upshaw
On December 01, 1952, a queen was born to Annie Pearl Briscoe, Eddie Briscoe, and Aaron Stringfellow, Jr. whom they named Doris Jean Briscoe. Doris was raised in Independence, Texas, attended Pickard High and graduated from Brenham High School c/o 1971. Doris met and married Robert Lee Upshaw on October 12, 1974. Doris was a very loving, God-fearing, and compassionate person. She accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. Peterson at Porter Chapel A.M.E and continued under the leadership of Rev. Prudie Milam, serving many areas in the church from church Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent, and Choir President. She remained a faithful servant until her health failed. She was employed at Antique Rose Emporium for 32 years and 10 years at AMA homecare.
She was preceded in death by her children, Terenthia A. Upshaw and Gabriel O. Upshaw, mother, Annie P. Briscoe, fathers, Eddie Briscoe and Aaron Stringfellow, grandchildren, Jarvis M. Breedlove and Javin A. Upshaw, and sister, Joan Briscoe and son in law, Ira Meredith.
The legacy she created will live on through, her daughters, Tarasha Meredith, Tiffany Upshaw, Nakeisha Upshaw, Sonya Branch (Roland, Sr.), and Katrina Upshaw; son Andrell Upshaw (Taneisha); and daughter in law, Lakeisha Foster; sisters: Geneva Jones, Savannah Kinch, Linda White, Sharon Petteway, and Adrian Stringfellow; brothers; Eddie Briscoe, Jr., Edward Briscoe, Terrell Nickerson, Sr. and Demarcus Moore, (Kourtney); grandchildren, NyShika, Bryceton, Kineshia, Xaviernique, Jordan, Taylon, Darien, Ja’Torey, Journee, Ke’Darrion, Xyran, Rayonna, Roland, Jr, Gavin, Arielle, Ryland, and Kalani, great-grandchildren; Landon, Lance, Ja’Kayla, Avery, Layden, Fredzaria, Fred, Aaliyah, and Ashtyn, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A special cousin/friend, Mary Moore and special son, Mark Garrett.
