Doris Hylton Fowlkes, 85, of 19835 A. L. Philpott Hwy., Spencer, VA died Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the Pioneer Community Hospital, Stuart, VA. She was born on September 25, 1925 in Stokes County, NC to the late Vallie Staples “Buddy†Hylton and Helen Moore Hylton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Lee Fowlkes; one brother, Staples Hylton and one great-granddaughter, Lauren Stewart. Mrs. Fowlkes was a member of the Horsepasture Christian Church for 51 years and also a member of the Horsepasture Home Extension Club. She worked for E. I. DuPont, Inc. for ten years in the Spinning Dept. and then she and her husband operated Fowlkes Grocery, Spencer, VA for a number of years before retiring. Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl F. Hedgecock of Spencer, VA, Brenda F. Lawson and Dewey Lawson of Covington, VA and Wahneeta F. Hamilton and Stewart Hamilton of Eden, NC; son, W. C. Fowlkes of Martinsville, VA; sisters, Margaret Clark of Martinsville, VA and Kathleen Pigg and Joye Nelson both of Spencer, VA; brothers, Dallas Hylton and Benford Hylton both of Spencer, VA; grandchildren, Ben Hamilton, Sarah Stewart, Robbie Lawson, Mitchell Lawson, Ryan Hedgecock and Jeremy Hedgecock; great-grandchildren, Caroline Stewart, Cameron Stewart and Vivian Hedgecock and step-great-grandchildren, Lillie, Athenia and Ava Poitras.
